Learn About Our Matcha
Matcha Washimine
Mr. Nakai's ceremonial matcha is crafted using the premium Okumidori cultivar, which is typically reserved for the production of high-grade Gyokuro, Sencha, and Matcha teas. The Okumidori cultivar imparts a perfectly balanced and complete taste to the matcha, characterized by creaminess, a full body, and subtle notes of fresh spinach and asparagus. It is free from any bitterness, and its exceptional quality makes it suitable for use in koicha, a thick paste made from only the finest grade matcha.
Latte Grade Matcha
This matcha boasts a bolder taste that complements the addition of cream and sugar, allowing for a robust matcha flavor while still being more budget-friendly. It can be used in larger quantities, making it a perfect thing to add to your morning latte or smoothie. Like our other teas, this matcha is grown without the use of pesticides or chemicals and is sourced from a small, family-owned farm in Shizuoka.
Learn About Our Teaware
Chasen Bamboo Matcha Whisk
The Chasen, a bamboo tea whisk, is essential for making a frothy and creamy bowl of matcha. It is crafted from a single piece of bamboo with precisely cut and curled prongs, making it the ideal tool to achieve the perfect consistency of matcha. With this whisk, you can easily become a tea master and make delicious matcha in the comfort of your home.
Chawan Matcha Bowl
The Chawan, or Matcha Bowl, is a handcrafted clay bowl that is designed to be the perfect vessel for mixing matcha in. It has high sides to prevent spills while whisking and can be preheated to keep the tea warm for longer. The heavy clay also adds a sense of significance, which is important in the Japanese Tea ceremony.
Chashaku Bamboo Spoon
The bamboo spoon is a great tool for measuring and scooping matcha powder. It is made from a single piece of bamboo and has a vertical design that allows for easy scooping from cylindrical containers like a matcha tin or a natsume. Two scoops of matcha powder using the spoon is enough to make a delicious cup of tea!
How Much Tea Does it Make?
This bundle contains 140 grams of tea, enough to make 70-140 bowls of matcha tea
Meet the Farmer
The matcha Washimine is crafted by Mr. Nakai, a talented young farmer from Wazuka who is known for his expertise in sencha and his outstanding matcha production. His father was responsible for creating the logo for Japanese Agricultural Standards that can be found on all certified green tea.
About the Farm
The farm is located in Wazuka near Kyoto, which is a historical area known for producing matcha tea. The traditional Japanese method of consuming matcha is in powdered form, and the first tea plants grown in Japan were at Kozanji temple in the Toganoo mountains, just outside Kyoto.
How to Prepare the Matcha
Add 2 grams of matcha to a bowl and then pour in 100-150ml of 160-175F water. You can then scrape off the sides of the bowl and begin whisking with your matcha whisk
