The Chawan Haku-Shino is made using the Shino glazing style, incorporating a white glaze and pronounced brush strokes in the design. This lighter color palate adds a brightness to your matcha making routine and it contrasts well with the emerald green of the matcha tea.
How to use the Chawan Haku-Shino
To prepare a bowl of matcha tea, you can sift the matcha powder into the Chawan Haku-Shino bowl, pour in the water, and whisk the tea until a thick green foam starts to appear on the top. The bowl also has steeper sides which makes it easy to whisk the matcha tea without spilling. This Chawan Haku-Shino is the perfect addition to your matcha collection!
Step 1
Start by setting a sifter on the Chawan Haku-Shino. Add 2 grams or 1 teaspoon of powder into the sifter and push it through using a sppon until there is a finely sifted layer of powder at the bottom of the bowl.
Step 2
Heat up some water until it reaches a temperature of about 160 degrees Fahrenheit or 70 degrees Celsius.
Step 3
Add in a small amount of warm water to the powder and mix it in until you get a smooth paste without any clumps at the bottom of the Chawan Haku-Shino bowl.
Step 4
Add 100ml of warm water to the paste, and gently mix it in while scraping the sides of the Chawan Haku-Shino to ensure it is fully combined.
Step 5
Now, whisk the tea up using quick zigzag wrist motions. With enough practice, you should be able to create a nice foam on top of the matcha in a matter of seconds, which enhances the consistency and taste of the tea.
Step 6
You can now enjoy your bowl of matcha tea! Either drink it directly out of the Chawan Haku-Shino or pour it into a glass.
